Junior Suite at The Cumberland Hotel* | ASOS striped pyjamas*
To completely state the obvious - there's just that something about sleeping in a hotel bed that is so much better than home. Who knows whether it's the plush clean sheets, the feather pillows or the springy mattress but sleep comes all that much easier when I know I don't have to make the bed in the morning.
I was invited to staycay at The Cumberland Hotel a couple of weeks ago in celebration of their first artist in residence, Gregory Burns. For four hours every day during July, Gregory Burns took the the lobby halls to paint what was to become a prominent feature of the hotel's lobby.
After check in, we headed downstairs to an exquisite room where Swarovski crystal chandeliers hung from the ceiling and mirrors covered almost every inch of every wall. We watched a time loop of Gregory painting the canvases in the hotel lobby and learnt how Gregory had created the paintings by talking to the hotel's staff and taking inspiration from their favourite places during art lessons that he held spontaneously during their lunch breaks.
Gregory gave a speech and we toasted his wonderful works before ultimately sinking into that glorious bed that awaited us upstairs - a little cheery from champagne, of course!
Thanks to The Cumberland Hotel for having us. The hotel is offering a unique art package to guests, where guests are taken on a guided tour of London's renowned art spots, followed by an art inspired cocktail and a live session with artist and former Paralympics gold winner Gregory Burns. Head to their website for more details.
