Breaking away from all black to all grey isn't exactly moving mountains but it's a step in the right direction, right? I found this Zara blazer in the sale just a few days after having bought the grey drop-waist dress from Topshop - it was obvious on sighting it that they were made for each other. Turns out pinstripes aren't just made for the office, although, I must admit that I did feel a little more adult than usual.
The dedicated reader may realise I've used Life Round Here as an outfit post title before, when introducing one of my favourite tracks off of James Blake's sophomore album Retrograde a while back. To say that I'm a little judgmental of any James Blake covers and remixes would be underselling it. The past week has seen teen superstar Lorde cover Blake's Retrograde (I'm not entirely sold on her cover but it's worth a listen) and Ellie Golding take on Life Round Here. Not wanting to leave out the hip-hop vibe, where we find Chance The Rapper in the original, we find Angel Haze in the cover, making this track an all-girl feat.
Ellie Goulding's soft vocals have a way of washing over you but not as effectively as Blake's. The rework of the track's production has turned up the bass, making the beat more of a focal point than in the original. As for Angel Haze, she plays her part well; she's a little too Minaj sounding for my liking but when paired with Goulding, it works. Have a listen below if you've not heard it already.
