With streetware brands like Supreme and Stussy having their mainstream moment, and girls like Cara Delevingne and Adrianne Ho wearing them, it's no surprise trainers have received more hype than ever over the past few seasons - SS13 saw Ashish send their models down the catwalk in Reebok Classics, Opening Ceremony recently collaborated with Adidas, and Kenzo with Vans, and that's just a few examples. There's still a way to go though before a handful of primped people in the fashion industry cease to turn their noses up obviously at all trainers splattered with anything but a Liberty floral print or the latest pair of Isabel Marant wedged trainers, which are about as rare wardrobes as iPhones are in pockets. It's not just them either; if trainers have become so acceptable and lust after in high fashion then why does Net a Porter, out of 280 pairs of shoes online, only stock 36 pairs 'sneakers'. Sartorial male equivalent Mr Porter is little different.
I'd happily wear my kicks all day everyday if I could but us short girls can't easily get away with wearing anything with less than a four inch heel to high fashion events and parties. Unless, of course, you're happy to be towered over and spoken down to, in the literal sense, for the entire evening.
There are so many pairs of trainers I long to covert this season for all those other times though, including a pair of Liberty x Nike AM1s...you got me! I've rounded up the best offerings that are available to buy at the moment below and so not to leave the boys for once, I've included men's too - they still make better trainers for you guys than they do for women anyway.
