If there was any other city I could choose to spend my summer in, aside from New York this year, it would obviously be Paris. It no secret that Parisian women are born and bred with a sense of collected coolness that you'll see little of elsewhere. A few weeks ago at Dior's London HQ, I felt like I had been transported across the Channel to the French capital to preview their AW13 collection.
I didn't make the show in Paris but getting up close and personal with the collection was even better. Dior AW13 sees the strongest elements of Dior and Raf Simons' Jil Sander collections married together, creating a vision of minimalist Parisian chic.
Silhouettes are billowed but, up on touch, stiff. Small Andy Warhol illustrations add an injection of feminine softness contrasting against the harsh texture of leather and monochrome houndstooth. Where pieces might lend themselves to the minimalist, the accessories are heavily embellished and certainly do not; attention falls to the detail and there's a lot of detail needing of attention.
I wish I had taken a few more photographs to share with you; the above photographs don't do the collection justice so you might want to head over to Vogue where you can see the full collection if you haven't already.
