James Blake at Baroque.

James Blake at Baroque.

James Blake at Baroque.

After attending the launch of Baroque with Mark Ronson a couple weeks ago, I expected big things from the new live music venue but never did I expect what landed in my inbox on Tuesday - an invitation to see James Blake perform an intimate set at the indulgent Mayfair club.

James' set was everything I would have expected and more; he stuck to what he's good at and what he knows but rather than playing tracks from self-titled James Blake album, James went with his Harmonimix tracks, including his remixes of Lil Wayne's A Milli and Destiny's Child's Bills.

James stuck around afterwards with friends and I managed to sit down and have a chat with him about his work, what he has coming up and his influences. If you didn't know already, I'm a massive fan of his. He told me how he made the entirety of his James Blake album in his bedroom whilst at University. We also spoke about Ifan Dafydd, a friend of his and his former flat mate, who has a similar sound to that on his James Blake album.

We can expect more tracks like CMYK on the new album, which James will be performing at the gigs he has lined up in December. I wish I could have recorded the conversation but the noise in club permitted it; it was pretty much everything I've ever dreamed of asking him and more.

Baroque has some pretty special acts lined up so keep checking back for more from the new venue.
