The Gesamtkunstwerk: New Art from Germany exhibition opened during late November but I've only just got round to seeing it. The show exhibits work from 24 emerging German artists, who have had little of their work seen here before.
There is a diverse range of paintings, sculpture, installations and drawings spread through each room of the Saatchi Gallery, all screaming vitality.
Some of the work is a little distasteful and a bit trashy but on the whole, the contemporary artists push the boundaries of contemporary art, confirming “Germany’s position as a powerhouse of European contemporary art” (the aim of the exhibition according to the press release).
Gesamtkunstwerk: New Art from Germany at the Saatchi Gallery is running until 30 April 2012. Visit www.saatchi-gallery.co.uk for more information.
