The best of 2011: music

2011 is drawing to a close and 2012 looms ahead. Apparently this time next year we will all be long gone but let's not be too pessimistic, it is only Monday afternoon after all and there's still the next few days to get through before work is out for Christmas.

I thought I would use this week to reflect upon some of the best of 2011, and what a year it has been...

Starting with music - there have been highs, lows, loss and gain to the industry (as you might expect every year). 2011 saw the loss of Gil Scott Heron, whose collaboration with Jamie XX led to one of my favourite albums of all time. 2011 has been the year for fierce females - it saw the re-emergence of Lana Del Rey, who first time round didn't quite make the cut, but her second try has brought her back with a sound like no other woman around. 2011 also brought us Cher Lloyd's masterpiece Sticks and Stones  (hahaha), and the less said about that the better.

There may be some you don't know, some you don't like, but there will be, without a doubt, at least one that you'll want to stick on repeat until the clock chimes 2012.
